Problem Awareness

By nature, if one isn't aware that someone can lie to them through a technology, then that technology is trusted. When you aren't aware of how simple it is to make technology do bad things ---- or even aware that's possible ---- it seems pretty logical to login to your online banking account if your bank sends you an urgent message.

Church Signs!

1. There was a church that had problems with outsiders parking in its parking lots, so they put up a sign: CHURCH CAR PARK - FOR MEMBERS ONLY Trespassers will be baptized! 2. "No God - No Peace. Know God - Know Peace." 3. "Free Trip to heaven. Details Inside!" 4. "Try our Sundays. They are better than Baskin Robbins." 5. "Searching for a new look? Have your faith lifted here!" 6. An ad for one Church has a picture of two hands holding stone tablets on which the Ten Commandments are inscribed and a headline that reads, "For fast, fast, fast relief, take two tablets." 7. When the restaurant next to another Church put out a big sign with red letters that said, "Open Sundays," the church reciprocated with its own message: "We are open on Sundays, too." 8. "People are like tea bags -- you have to put them in hot water before you know how strong they are." 9. "Fight truth decay -- study the Bible...

What's so great about FACE?

What Face Mean To The Chinese An American, a Japanese and a Chinese went for a hike one day. It was very hot. They were sweating and exhausted. When they came upon a small lake, they took off all their clothes and jumped into the water, since it was fairly secluded. Feeling refreshed, the trio decided to pick a few berries while enjoying their " freedom. " As they were crossing an open area, suddenly a group of ladies from town appeared. Unable to get to their clothes in time, the American and the Japanese quickly used their hands to cover their privates. But the Chinese covered his face while they ran for cover. After the ladies had left and the men got their clothes back on. The American and the Japanese asked the Chinese why he covered his face rather than his private part. The Chinese replied, " I don't know about you, but in my country, it's the face that people recognize. "

Good English Cool!

Image
/ Random Rants Wednesday, July 26, 2006 Good English Cool! In a recent newspaper interview on the Speak Good English Movement, Professor Koh Tai Ann, Chairman of the movement, said: "We would need workers who can communicate with not only the non-Singaporeans among us but all the visitors we are attracting to Singapore — tourists, those who come for conventions, meetings and so on. It would so ironic if we find many Singaporeans' English not suitable and we have to bring in foreign workers to work in these industries who can speak better English than we do." Dunno whether correct or not but a Sammyboy forum chap made some corrections to the quote, in the spirit of good Englishing: We would need workers who can communicate not only with not only (poor sequence) the (article unnecessary) non-Singaporeans among us but all (all is hyperbole) also the visitors we are attracting attract (present tense is used since article suggest future rather...

RO water filter - Water Demonstration - Is it Safe?

This is my personal experience, if anyone show you an experiement whereby using a electrode probe, so call water analyser by the saleman, emmersed into cup of tap water, and subsequent the tap water turn reddish, kind of dirty..... They will start telling you how dirty is our water...and convincing you to buy their RO water filter. Below is the technical explanations, which I have gotten the permission from Public Utilities Board (PUB) to share amongst my family and fellow friends. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ For your information, during an electrolysis demonstration, a device (one shiny rod and one black rod) is emmersed into a beaker of PUB water. When a power supply source is applied, an eletrolysis reaction takes place causing reddish brown precipitates to form. The presence of ions such as H+, OH-, Ca2+,Cl-, SO4- & F- in PUB water contributed to its inherent conductivity. Hence, a current passed through it would cause chemical reaction to occur a...

Ben Fathi: Microsoft's new Security Chief looks beyond Vista

Image
The responsibility for protecting Windows systems against ever-increasing threats is in new hands. Ben Fathi, a software engineer by trade, took over from Mike Nash as corporate vice president of Microsoft's Security Technology Unit on June 1 . Nash is on sabbatical. The change is part of a recent shakeup in Microsoft's executive ranks, which also put someone new in charge of Windows . Iranian-born Fathi is a tech geek who spent the last eight years in the shadows at Microsoft working on file systems. Now he's in the spotlight--in arguably the most thankless job in Redmond. Fathi is responsible for security features in Windows and other Microsoft products. Nash liked to be the public face of Microsoft security, hosting regular "Security360" Web casts , blogging and speaking in public. That's new territory for Fathi, who delivered the first speech in his new role on Monday at Microsoft's TechEd event in Boston. Fathi, an amateur photographer, is back...

What is Quality of Life?

A group of alumni, highly established in their careers, got together to visit their old university lecturer. Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life. Offering his guests coffee, the lecturer went to the kitchen and returned with a large pot of coffee and an assortment of cups: porcelain, plastic, glass, some plain looking and some expensive and exquisite, telling them to help themselves to hot coffee. When all the students had a cup of coffee in hand, the lecturer said: "If you noticed, all the nice looking, expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal for you to want only the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress. What all of you really wanted was coffee, not the cup, but you consciously went for the better cups and are eyeing each other's cups." "Now, if Life is coffee, then the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold and c...

World's tiniest fish identified

Image
The smallest, lightest animal with a backbone has been described for the first time, by scientists in the US. The minuscule fish, called a stout infantfish, is only about 7mm (just over a quarter of an inch) long. It lives around Australia's Great Barrier Reef and has snatched the "world's smallest vertebrate" title from the 1cm-long dwarf goby fish. The infantfish, which is no longer than the width of a pencil, is described in the Records of the Australian Museum. The stout infantfish lives exclusively in Australia's Great Barrier Reef and the nearby Coral Sea Big females The first specimen of the tiny creature ( Schindleria brevipinguis ) was collected way back in 1979, by the Australian Museum's Jeff Leis, during fieldwork in the Lizard Island region of the Great Barrier Reef. Anytime a scientist ident...
