A Reg reader who works for a large UK supermarket was this month unable to buy a copy of LC 5, a tool developed by @stake prior to its recent acquisition by Symantec. LC 5 is the commercial version of a password auditing / breaking tool better known as L0phtCrack. "A month ago I could have bought it from the @stake web site, that website has gone and the product has not appeared on the Symantec web site. I inquired if I could purchase the product, only to be told that it will only be sold to US and Canadian customers," our correspondent informs us. HP opens Tech Recovery Centre AMERICAN computer giant Hewlett-Packard (HP) has opened a vast IT facility in Singapore that will allow companies access to computers if a major disaster like an earthquake strikes and causes prolonged power cuts. The facility at Science Park II, HP's second in Singapore, is 21,000 sq ft in size - that is about 200 basketball courts - and able to service up to 100 companies. About half of the area has been built, with the remaining space available for expansion. Wasps buzz around a nest attached to the local farmhouse. A priest looks out from a window on the top floor. Then a woman steps outside and asks, "You're the medical examiner?" The man comes inside, walks upstairs, and enters a bedroom—and before the door closes, we catch a glimpse of a police officer's badge. This sequence is impressive partly because it relies so strongly on visuals. The prosecutor (Campbell Scott) contends that Emily died of malnutrition and that the priest is directly responsible for her death. Looking over a prolonged period on a bright colour, in this case violet, it will "imprint" on our retina creating the opposite colour, in this case green. So constant staring at the same spot will superimpose the green colour which had already been "imprinted" on our retina and causing green & violet to "combine" giving us full colour, which is white. However, it appears grey because it is intensity difference only, between white and grey... Cool.....
